Wedding Events
The interesting part of Indian weddings is that they are not just a single day event. They are a series of events that happen over a period of time. The number of events vary from family to family. In our case, we have at least 6 events planned for the wedding so far. Here are the details of each event, and what to expect.
Haldi
Scheduled for: 14th October

Haldi celebration at my sister's wedding
This is a pre-wedding ritual where where the bride and groom are smeared with turmeric paste by their family and friends. This is done to make the skin glow and look fresh on the wedding day. This is followed by a bath to wash off the turmeric paste. This event is usually held at the bride and groom's respective homes - but we are planning to do this together at one venue.
Mehndi
Scheduled for: 15th October, Morning

Mehndi celebration at my sister's wedding
This is another pre-wedding ritual where the bride's hands and feet are decorated with henna (temporary tattoo). This is typically an all female event, where the bride's family and friends get together to decorate the bride's hands and feet with henna. This is usually held at the bride's home, but we are planning to do this together at one venue. It's not just for the bride though, all friends and family get their henna done too.
Sangeet
Scheduled for: 15th October, Evening

Sangeet at my sister's wedding
This is a pre-wedding event where the bride and groom's family and friends get together to sing and dance. This is usually held at a venue, and is a fun event where everyone gets to show off their singing and dancing skills. This is usually followed by dinner. Dance performances are strongly encouraged, irrespective of how good or bad you are at dancing. Join the fun!
Bride/Groom Day

Bride/Groom day at my sister's wedding
This is a pre-wedding ceremony where the bride and groom are official declared as bride and groom. It's typically held at the bride and groom's respective homes. This is attended by family and friends. This is followed by lunch.
